Arctic Field Grant (Arktisstipend)
Svalbard Science Forum allocates funding for fieldwork in Svalbard to Master students, PhD students and researchers from Norwegian institutions. The intention is to support students and researchers not established in Svalbard to carry out fieldwork in Svalbard. The yearly call for applications takes place in autumn. The proposal deadline is approx. 20 November each year.

European Centre for Arctic Environmental Research (ARCFAC)
ARCFAC is a Research Infrastructures Action of the European Community FP6, Specific Programme for Structuring the European Research Area and offers to the European scientists free access to the Research Infrastructure in Ny-Ålesund. The programme runs until 30 April 2010. Calls for Proposals are announced on the project website.

TransNational Access program: European Incoherent SCATter (EISCAT) Association
An EU funding initiative that enables the European Incoherent SCATter (EISCAT) Association to provide funding for up to 4 projects per year (2007-2011) for new researchers to visit and run experiments using its scientific facilities.

Svalbard's environmental protection fund
The fund is financed by the environment fee, fees for hunting and fishing cards, and penalties for violation of the Svalbard environmental law. Resources are used for projects and initiatives with the purpose of protecting the environment. Private and public businesses, organisations and private individuals can apply for support.

Strategimidler til arktisk forskning - University of Tromsø
The Amundsen Center at the University of Tromsø yearly allocates fundings for arctic research to Master- and PhD-students, as well as researchers at the University of Tromsø.

Polish-Norwegian Research Fund
The Fund provides grant assistance for research projects and workshops/seminars with preference given to larger projects in the areas environmental protection and healthcare.

The Research Council of Norway
The Research Council of Norway administers and distributes public funding for Norwegian research mainly through research programmes, but also via independent projects and basic funding to research institutions. Funding applications can only be send to specific programme announcements and calls for proposals.

  • IS-MOBIL: The Research Council of Norway has announced a scholarship fund for young researchers and highly qualified PhD students, the fund covers costs of a research visit up to 10 months in Norway; citizens from 25 countries are eligible to apply. Read also: SSF news (9.2.2009)
